almost
Madge: Did you hear about Fred?
He was arrested for doing his Christmas shopping early.
Flora: what do you mean early? It’s almost Christmas.
Madge: Before the store opened.
Madge：你听说过Fred的事吗？他因为早早进行圣诞节采购被抓起来了。
Flora：你说早是什么意思？这就快到圣诞节了。
Madge：在商店开门前。
考点：1、almost副词：差不多；
2、hear about Fred：听说过Fred的事；对比hear of Fred 听说过Fred这个人；
3、arrest：逮捕；for介词：因为；
4、Christmas shopping圣诞节采购；early副词：早；
5、what do you mean…你是什么意思…；
5、store：商店；open：开门。
I never smoked, or a drank before I was almost ten years old.
我从不吸烟、喝酒，在差不多10岁以前。
注：英语里可以很好地利用这种大喘气来制造幽默。
考点：1、almost副词：差不多；
2、副词never放在动词前修饰动词；drink—drank—drunk；
3、before引导时间状语从句。
Teacher: You’re always late!
Student: I hate that I get to school on time almost everyday!
Teacher: Sure …almost on Monday, almost on Tuesday, almost on Wednesday…
老师：你总是迟到！
学生：我讨厌几乎每天都按时上学！
老师：是….星期一几乎（按时上学），星期二几乎，星期三几乎….
注：老师的意思是这个没有一天按时上学。
其他考点：1、hate后面跟that引导的从句作宾语；
2、get to school：去上学；对比get to the school：去学校；
3、on time：按时；
4、星期几前介词用on；星期几前面为零冠词。
alone
病人手术后醒过来，外科医生对他说，“恐怕还要给你做次手术，你看，我把橡胶手套落你肚里了。”
“如果就这点儿事儿，你让我安静会儿吧（leave me alone），我给你手套钱”。
场景再现：身在异乡，独自一人的感受：
Think how it must feel to be alone in New York, without a friend, with no one to know or care what to do. It must be great!
想一想一个人在纽约是什么感受，没有一个朋友，没有人知道你做什么，也没有人关心。那肯定太棒了！
注：终于逃离了父母的唠叨，朋友的骚扰，太自由了。
考点：1、alone形容词：独自的；对比lonely：孤独的；
2、how…..作think的宾语；
3、注意how it must feel to…的词序；
4、to know作no one的定语；what to do作care的宾语。
Laugh and the world laughs with you; snore [打呼噜] and you sleep alone.
笑，别人和你一起笑；打呼噜，你自己睡觉。
注：如果你快乐，别人和你一起快乐，如果你老抱怨，没人理你。
考点：1、sleep alone独自睡觉；注意alone是形容词，在系动词sleep的后面；
2、相当于：If you laugh, the world laughs with you…..。

Dear School: Please excuse me from being absent [缺席的] on Jan. 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, and also 33.
亲爱的学校，请原谅我1月28、29、30、31、32，还有33不能去学校。
注：你写过这样的请假条吗？
You also know my sister. But you still are my darling.
虽然你也认识我妹妹，但你依然是我亲爱的。
注：小男孩儿对妹妹的小姐妹这么说。小男孩可能正在和妹妹闹别扭。
The bus is not only slow, but also crowed.
公共汽车不但慢，而且挤。（注：但为了环保，我宁愿做公共汽车，也不愿意开宝马。）
(also用在句中，Too用在肯定句之尾，either用在否定句之尾)
among
Everything comes to him who waits --- among other things, death.
只要等待，什么都能等到——包括死亡。
注：这句话说明了一个道理，虽然你有耐心等待成功，可是生命很短暂，也可能在你成功之前，死亡首先来临。
考点：1、among：在三个以上的事物之中；对比between：在两个事物(人)之间；
2、everything后面谓语动词用单数；
3、who引导从句修饰him。
The sheep is standing among wolfs.（在….中间）
绵羊站在狼中间，（慈祥地对着狼微笑）。
angry
Someone stole dog’s food, so the dog is very angry,
and the result is very serious. The dog keeps barking.
有人把看门狗的吃的偷走了，狗很生气，后果很严重，它汪汪地叫个不停。
What happens to a flea（虱子） when it becomes really angry?
It gets hopping mad.
如果一个虱子变得很生气会发生什么事儿？——它暴跳如雷。
考点：angry形容词：生气的；副词really修饰angry。
May you live a happy life everyday! You won’t get angry even if I never return the money I borrowed from you.
愿你能每天快乐的生活，我借钱不还你也不生气。

母鸡只是一个鸡蛋制造另一个鸡蛋的方式。
注：独特的思维。
I wrote another five hundred words. Can I have another cake?

注：小学生为了蛋糕在写作。
Wife：You will never have another wife like me.
Husband: Who said I would ever want another one like you?
妻子：你永远再也不会娶到象我这样的妻子了。

A clever man’s question has half the answer.
聪明人的问题有一半答案。
注：聪明人有时候知道答案故意提问。
场景再现：老师说你说错了，你敢不敢说：
Maybe it’s a not a wrong answer --- maybe it’s just a different answer.
可能答案没错——可能只是一个不同的答案。
Excuse me, you’re lawyer, aren’t you? If I pay you $200, will you answer me three questions?

注：律师很值钱。

Why didn’t dinosaurs（恐龙） cross the road?---- There weren’t any roads then.

I haven’t got any money with me.
